A message from the founder...
My name is Suzanne Valenzuela and I am the founder of the Victoria Lady Dynamites, I started coaching my daughter Stephanie in 1998 and my other daughter Ashley in 2001. Below is a little history on how I got started.
Victoria is a small town of about 84,000 people. We are in the Crossroads from Houston (2hrs), Austin (1 1/2 hrs), San Antonio (2hrs), Corpus Christi (1 1/2hrs) and the Valley (3 1/2 hrs). In the public schools there were not many sports activities for girls so in 1997-1998 Judy Linville introduced to the public middle schools the game of volleyball. Shortly after Linville's departure Melinda Kirst the new Victoria High School Athletic Coordinator and Head Basketball coach introduced volleyball to the High Schools with the help of Kim Ratcliffe. Melinda also helped start volleyball at the YMCA and eventually formed a competitive local league called Crossroads Volleyball, this league is run by a board of directors.
Being a parent with daughters that LOVE the game of volleyball, we were asked by our daughters how they could build their skill to a higher level. Some parents had heard about an organization called Lone Star Volleyball and told me about it. That's how I started coaching Club Ball, my first team didn't have a team name so I created the Victoria team Lady Dynamites. The rest as they say is history... now here we are - my youngest daughter will soon be graduating from High School and I'm ready to start helping our surrounding area build our talent by playing competitive Club Volleyball. This will be the first year the Victoria Lady Dynamites will hold try-outs for age groups 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 & 18 year old teams. Mission Statement
Victoria Lady Dynamites is dedicated to providing opportunities to play volleyball for area girls. We will provide these opportunities at various competition levels.
We will train the athletes in techniques, strategy and teamwork. We believe that it is our job to not only train athletes physically for the sport of volleyball, but to help them become positive leaders on and off the court. We strive to teach them a sense of passion through sport and that good sportsmanship will make them healthy citizens.
We believe that education takes precedence over athletics and that at this age level, athletes do not have to specialize in only one sport.
